MID

CENTURY

MODERN

The existing kitchen was so tiny and unfunctional for the family of six that lived in this mid-century built house. The new one is actually the same size, and appliances are in the same location, but what a difference!

We tore down three walls, adding a post and beam for structural support. The new island is located at the junction of two of the walls and still within the same footprint of the old kitchen. This expanded the visual space and added both storage and countertop work space.

The homeowners wanted an updated mid-century modern style to fit their house and chose walnut and white laminate for their cabinets. White subway tile was installed up to the ceiling, with walnut floating shelves balancing the dark island. The pendants over the island are new, but match original light fixtures elsewhere in the house.
